On Wednesday February 6th, 2019 the Chavistas from Burbank Elementary School participated in a field-trip to San Diego State University. This exciting excursion for 21 students gave them a great introduction to using public transit and an experience on a university campus.
The Chavistas were escorted by three school staff members and they all had lots of fun taking public transportation to get to SDSU. Mr. Avalos, their teacher, Mr. Mora, their P.E. teacher, and Nurse Applegate were an amazing guides for their students.
Coach Mora, an SDSU graduate, was an amazing tour guide for the Chavistas because he was able to personally share with the students his experiences when he was on campus and he had lots of stories to tell. Chavistas were able to visit the San Diego State student garden, The Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union with its bowling alley and several other buildings on campus. Chavistas also visited the main San Diego State library where they demonstrated amazing respect to the college students who were studying by being quiet and respectful.
Our Chavistas ended their SDSU visit at the Viejas Arena where they had a great time watching SDSU women's basketball game. Thanks to Coach Mora they were able to give the basketball team high fives when they were coming out of their locker rooms after half time was over.
